EAFC’s Jake Goetting Signs Agreement to Play Division I Soccer at the University of Washington
Jake’s soccer journey began at just four years old, when his parents signed him up because several classmates were playing. What started as a fun introduction quickly grew into a lifelong passion. Over the years, Jake immersed himself fully in the sport, participating in high-level programs such as ODP and PDP, and even spending time competing in a semi-professional environment — experiences that helped shape his development and ambition to play college soccer.
Humble Beginnings

Believing in the Process
When reflecting on the recruiting journey, Jake shared that the biggest challenge was trusting the process:
“Even if a school passed on me, I kept trying and pushing for other opportunities”
That persistence paid off.
Finding the Perfect Fit at UW
The moment Jake stepped onto campus for his official visit, he knew he had found the righ place.
“The sense of community within the team stood out to me. The players and coaches were super friendly and everyone was so happy to be there.”
The University of Washington’s strong culture, competitive environment, and supportive staff resonated deeply with Jake, making it the ideal place to continue his academic and athletic journey.

A Coach Who Changed Everything
When asked who has influenced him the most, Jake did not hesitate:
“My current soccer coach has by far influenced me the most. He’s been my coach since I was six and has taught me everything I know. I wouldn’t have made this journey without him.”
Jake credits both his high school and club environments for giving him the space, training, and support to grow into the player he is today.

Preparing for the Next Level
Since deciding to play at the collegiate level, Jake has elevated his training — spending more time both on the field and in the gym to prepare for the demands of Division I soccer. His goals for his freshman year are rooted in growth:
“It’s not likely I’ll play my first year, but I want to improve in all the areas I can and be ready for the years after that.”
Advice for Younger Players
Jake encourages aspiring college athletes to start early:
“Start the recruiting process as early as possible — it takes a lot of time.”
Looking Ahead
Beyond soccer, Jake plans to take his academics seriously at UW and pursue an academic career path alongside his athletic commitments. But when it comes to the experience he’s most excited about… “Playing in front of thousands of people.”
