COVID Policy

The following are Eastshore Alliance FC’s recommendations when a member has tested positive for COVID and/or has been exposed.

Definitions:

Exposure - Contact with someone infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in a way that increases the likelihood of getting infected with the virus. Date of COVID exposure is considered Day Zero.

Close Contact - Close contacts are someone who was less than 6 feet away from an infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinical diagnosis) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. For example, three individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes.

Fully Vaccinated - Fully vaccinated means an individual has received 2 doses of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as well as the booster (if eligible)

The following procedures pertain to resuming contact play per the status of return-to-competition, which is subject to change at any time according to the level of Covid-19 transmission in California.

  • In- person training is voluntary. All families submit a completed & signed Informed Consent Form as part of the registration process for our programs.

  • Per the Guidance For the Use of Face Coverings, masking while indoors is required, regardless of vaccination status

  • Per the CDC’s Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention:

    • Masking while outdoors is REQUIRED for those that are NOT fully vaccinated

    • Masking while outdoors is optional for those that are fully vaccinated

  • Spectators are asked to wait outside the training facilities during practices.

  • Pod/cohort sizes now include all rostered & registered players per team and coaching staff.

  • No sharing of drink bottles and other personal items and equipment.

  • Players can share/touch gear and equipment as long as proper hand hygiene is practiced, i.e. washing with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer before player, during breaks, at half time and after the conclusion of the activity.

*Testing for players/coaches is not required per Cal North, NorCal and the club’s understanding of the State’s guidelines.

COVID Protocol FAQ

  • A: Coaches are encouraged to get regularly tested every week, performing baseline self-check (see screening questions below) daily, COVID safety training, limited to 3 teams max. The club is providing each coach with a temperature gun and mask.

  • A: Contact with someone infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in a way that increases the likelihood of getting infected with the virus. Date of COVID exposure is considered Day Zero.

  • A: The parent(s) will report the positive test to their team’s coach immediately. The coach will alert the club, and the positive player and any exposed teammates will not be able to attend in-person training and must stay home for a minimum of 5 days. Players can resume in-person training on day 6 only if all the following conditions are met:

    • Symptoms are not present

    • A diagnostic specimen collected on day 5 or later tests negative

If unable to test or choosing not to test, and symptoms are not present, players can return to in-person training after day 10.

If fever is present, isolation should be continued until fever resolves.

If symptoms, other than fever, are not resolving, continue to isolate until symptoms are resolving or until after day 10.

Wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings

Each follow up process will be determined by each individual case.

  • A: Coach will report to our Executive Director Ted Steen immediately. Teams exposed by coach will stop in-person training until notified, and all families in the team will be notified immediately. Each follow up process will be determined by each individual case.

  • A: Players and coaches can return to in-person activities:

    • after Day 5 if they receive a negative COVID test 5 days after the initial exposure AND are symptom-free. If training outdoors, they should continue to wear a mask for a total of 10 days.

    • after Day 10 AND are symptom-free.

  • A: Players and coaches that are fully vaccinated can continue participating in in-person activities, provided they are symptom-free and they:

    • Test on day 5

    • Wear a mask for a total of 10 days

    • If they receive a positive test, follow the steps for “Q: What happens if a player tests positive?”

  • A: Depending on the symptoms, all families involved will be notified and either a replacement coach will be filling in or in more serious cases, the pod will be shut down and follow up protocol will be followed.

  • A: To make sure kids are showing up healthy. Recommended temperature check prior to each practice, if traveling or someone in family is traveling and has returned home to take careful precautions to not put the player and team at risk. When it comes to testing, we are accepting either PCR or antigen tests.

  • A: Per Domestic Travel During COVID-19, prior to returning to training, we kindly ask that anyone who travels outside the state:

    • Who is unvaccinated:

    1. Quarantines for 7 days and receives a negative COVID test following travel OR

    2. Quarantines for 10 days following travel.

    • Who is fully vaccinated:

    1. Per the Travel Advisory, quarantine for 5 days and receive a negative a negative COVID test 3-5 days following travel

  • A: If a child is having a hard time following rules at training, the coach will contact the parents to discuss and hopefully resolve any issues. If problems persist, the child will be asked to stay home.

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IF PLAYER, COACH OR FAMILY MEMBER REPORTS A POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST:

  1. Inform your COACH, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR and DIRECTOR OF COACHING about positive test results for swift action.

  2. Team(s) will be shut down until full details are collected to inform the club of next steps.

  3. Quarantine, assessment of the seriousness of the case, and follow up in a timely manner based on information collected.

  4. Teams may be shut down for 10 days, affected player or coach may be asked to get tested before returning to play, a replacement coach may be slotted in to continue practices; all scenarios are possible based on the situation.

  5. Reminder that a COVID waiver will be signed before beginning of training by families that explains the risk involved as a participant.

Guidelines for Ongoing Best Practices

We continue to encourage best hygiene practices at home to prevent the spread of the virus:

Avoid Close Contact.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

Do Not Touch.

Cover your cough (with the elbow!) if you are sick.

Cover your Mouth.

Stay at home (players, siblings and parents!) if you are not well. You should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to the soccer field.

Stay At Home.

Wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water. Hand sanitizer is an acceptable alternative if washing facilities are not immediately available.

Wash Hands.

Greet with the Elbow.

Greet people with the elbow, rather than high fives, handshakes or fist bumps.
