Air Quality Policy

Eastshore Alliance wants to ensure that all players and coaches can enjoy training in an environment that is safe. With a significant increase in wildfires near and around the Bay Area, air quality has been a growing concern. We want to limit exposure to this harmful air as much as possible, as the club’s number one priority is the health of players and coaches.

The club enforces a strict air quality policy, based on the Air Quality Index (AQI), which will determine cancellations for practices moving forward. This will guide coaches and also allow families to plan appropriately without club-wide announcements.

When there are active fires in the area, coaches will announce practice cancellations by…

  • 2:30 pm the day of practice for 4:00 practices

  • 4:00 pm the day of practice for 5:30 practices

Practices for…

U5-U12

U13 & Older

Are Limited if AQI is…

50-100

101-150

Are Canceled if AQI is…

Above 100

Above 150

*To check the current air quality index that will be used in determining training conditions, please click here.

If the AQI is between 0-50

  • There will be no conditions placed on training for any age groups. This is a healthy range.

If the AQI is between 50-100

  • Practices will be canceled for Mini Allies (ages 5 and under)

  • Practices will be on for teams U6-U12 under reduced training conditions (limited running and other exertions)

  • Practices will be conducted as usual for teams U13 and older.

  • This range is generally “acceptable” but may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

  • Players of any age group with asthma or pulmonary/lung conditions must consult a doctor to determine what conditions are appropriate for him or her to train in.

If the AQI is between 101-150

  • Practices will be canceled for U12 and younger, due to the sensitivity of younger players in these conditions.

  • Practices will be on U13 and older under reduced training conditions (limited running and other exertions)

  • Higher AQI (closer to 150 in this range will require further reductions in training conditions.

  • In this range members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is not likely to be affected.

  • Players of any age group with asthma or pulmonary/lung conditions must consult a doctor to determine what conditions are appropriate for him or her to train in.

If the AQI is above 150

  • Practices for all ages groups will be canceled.

 Notes:

Pulmonary/Lung Conditions - If any Eastshore Alliance FC player suffers from asthma or any other pulmonary/lung conditions a doctor must be consulted before training in these types of conditions.

Parental Discretion - A parent or player has full discretion to prevent their child/themselves from attending Eastshore Alliance FC training when the club implements its air quality policy. There will be no penalty placed on any player not attending practice when the club implements the air quality procedure.

Changing or Improving Conditions - If conditions are improving throughout the day the club will make a final decision regarding training by 2:30pm, to give families sufficient time to plan accordingly. Once a decision has been made it will be final. Final decisions (if required) will be made 1.5 hours before training start times.
